Self-driving convoy in Spain

May 30, 2012 by

A Volvo truck and 3 cars completed a 200 kilometer route in Spain with only one human driver.  They traveled as a group (or “platoon”) with between 5 to 15 meters between them, the driverless vehicles closely following the lead vehicle, while communicating via a wireless network.  The project is run by Volvo and is called SARTRE (Safe Road Trains for the Environment).
